The next BARRA Tech Net will focus on the recent Western New York windstorm that brought gusts nearing 70 mph and challenged many amateur radio stations across the region. This session will give members an opportunity to share how their antennas, towers, and mounting systems held up—and what lessons were learned from the event.

Discussion will include storm impacts such as antenna damage, loosened hardware, feedline issues, and near-misses discovered during post-storm inspections. Members are encouraged to talk about what failed, what survived, and any surprises encountered after the winds subsided.

The net will also cover station preparation and mitigation techniques, including steps taken before the storm such as lowering antennas, securing mounts, disconnecting equipment, and monitoring forecasts. Post-storm inspection practices, SWR checks, and alignment verification will be part of the conversation.

Finally, the group will look ahead to future improvements, sharing ideas for hardening stations against high-wind events through better mounting hardware, guying methods, strain relief, and antenna selection. This Tech Net aims to provide practical, real-world insights to help everyone better prepare for the next severe weather event.
