DVSwitch is a flexible software platform used in amateur radio to connect and bridge multiple digital voice networks. It enables radios, repeaters, hotspots, and software clients to communicate across different digital modes and internet-linked systems. By acting as a central audio routing and conversion system, DVSwitch allows operators using various technologies to communicate with one another seamlessly.
Originally developed to work alongside AllStarLink for experimentation with digital voice networking, DVSwitch has grown into a powerful tool for building multi-mode gateways and remote access systems. It supports connections between several popular amateur radio digital voice formats, including DMR, D-STAR, Yaesu System Fusion (YSF), NXDN, and P25, depending on how the system is configured.
One of the most widely used components of the DVSwitch ecosystem is DVSwitch Mobile, an Android application that allows licensed amateur radio operators to connect to AllStarLink nodes using the internet. This enables operators to monitor and transmit on a repeater system directly from a smartphone using a push-to-talk interface.
DVSwitch is commonly used by clubs and system administrators to create multi-network bridges, digital voice gateways, and remote access nodes. Running on Linux systems such as Raspberry Pi or server platforms, it provides a powerful and cost-effective way to expand the reach of amateur radio communications beyond traditional RF coverage areas.
